A SCADA system consists of the three main components:
Operation System
The Operation System is a software that is considered the heart of the SCADA and its main functions: - Human-Machine Interface (HMI) - Real-time Operations and Control - Telemetry and Monitoring - Alarms and Fault Management - Logging and History
This component has two parts: - Remote Site Equipment (Remote Terminal Units RTU, Sensors, etc...) - Central Site Hardware
Communication Network
The nerve connecting all parts of the system is its communication network. SCADA systems may utilize all the available technologies including: - Wired - Wireless - Fiber - Satellite - Internet
